What Art Instagram Username Should I Use?

Selecting an instagram username for your art account page doesn't have to be rocket science, but you do need to put some thought into which name you are selecting. 

You Can Always Change Your IG Username/Handle Later

Don’t worry, instagram does allow you to change your username if you end up wanting to adjust it down the road. My advice would be to select something that is easy to spell, easy to remember, and is in alignment with your website!

For example, I chose to use the second option of @FirstnameLastnameArt (@ginnystlawrenceart) as my instagram handle. I chose this as I wanted my name to be in the handle, as well as the word “art”. This is because I wanted my IG and all my social media accounts to be the exact same as my website (www.ginnystlawrenceart.com) for ease of use and remembering. 

Don’t let the fear of what username to choose stop you from getting on social media platforms and posting your art! Get a name, and get posting! Remember, you can always change it later if that gives you peace of mind. :)

Make All of Your Accounts Match 

You really don’t want to have a website with @YouCreativeBusinessName and a website that is www.FirstnameLastnameArt.com If at all possible, try to keep everything matching! It will be easier when you give interviews, print business cards, and it gives your brand a much more professional appearance and representation, plus it helps with SEO.

If you want to ensure all of your names match, I highly recommend https://www.namecheckr.com/ or https://namechk.com/ as a resource to use.  You can type in the name you are thinking of using for your website, your Instagram, etc, and it will tell you if the name you want is available or not. 

Note: They have recently disabled the instagram searchability, but they are still both great resources when searching for usernames you want to use as they make sure no one else has taken them.

Activate Accounts Across Multiple Platforms

Once you’ve selected your name, go on and select that as your domain, IG, YouTube, and any other social media platforms you want to utilize for your brand or business. This will hold your place with your preferred name for various social media accounts, regardless if they are active with posts or not.

At the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter what you name your social media account, as long as it is in alignment with your personality and or your preference for your brand/business. Once you do get a social media account up and going, be sure to get to posting and sharing your artwork with the world. We all could use a little more art in our lives :)
